Here’s an example structure for a video interview built in Hireflix, mixing different types of questions so you get a well-rounded picture of each candidate.

Intro video

Record a short video introducing your company and, optionally, more detail about the role. This is the candidate’s first impression of your company, so keep it warm and genuine — a quick “who we are” and “what this role is about” goes a long way toward putting candidates at ease before they start answering.

Questions

We recommend keeping the interview to 3 to 6 questions, kept short and concrete. A good mix combines these types of questions:
1

An honesty confirmation

Make this your first question. Unless you say otherwise, candidates may assume using AI tools like ChatGPT is fine — so ask them to confirm on video that they’ll answer honestly and without external help, e.g. “I confirm that I will answer these questions honestly and without the help of AI or external tools.” It sets expectations upfront and removes any ambiguity later.
2

An icebreaker

Start with something easy, like “Tell me about yourself.” It gives candidates a low-pressure way to warm up and settle their nerves before the questions that matter more to your evaluation.
3

Soft skills questions

Ask something that reveals how a candidate works with others and handles pressure, e.g. “Tell me about a challenge you’ve faced at work, and how you dealt with it.” These answers say more about communication style, self-awareness, and problem-solving than a resume ever could.
4

Position-specific questions

Tailor at least one question to the exact role, a question about relevant experience, domain knowledge, or “What do you know about our company?” This is where you gauge whether the candidate has done their homework and has the skills the role actually requires.

Outro video

Thank the candidate for completing the interview. This is also the right moment to set expectations for what happens next. For example, letting them know you’ll be in touch within a certain timeframe. A clear outro leaves candidates with a positive impression of your company, regardless of the outcome.
